The metaverse is a digital platform that lets users interact with each other in a virtual space. It’s like the internet, but instead of websites, users can create their own virtual worlds and experiences.
So far, the metaverse has been largely theoretical, but there are signs that it’s starting to take shape.
In the 1990s, Second Life was one of the first virtual worlds imagined as part of a metaverse. The game allowed residents to create avatars and participate in an economy where digital goods could be bought and sold using real money.
It didn’t take off like its developers thought it would, but Second Life laid the groundwork for how a large-scale, 3D virtual world would operate.
This new world can be a place where you live and work, play with friends or family members virtually anywhere in the globe without ever having to leave your home. It’s made up of multiple elements including virtual reality augmented realities video feeds that allow users “live” within this digital universe all while staying connected through everything from concerts & conferences right down into everyday life styles !
The internet is about to become even more interconnected. As of now, there are talks happening with many other networks and platforms in order for this new world order that Matthew Ball speaks off come true !
When can we expect to see the metaverse?
With Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook) estimating it could take five to 10 years before key features become mainstream he may be on track with some aspects already existing. Ultra-fast broadband speeds are available in many parts but not all have access virtual reality headsets or an always online world which is another example for their availability even though they might not come accessible by everyone at first glance.
